Assembly and Performance Modeling of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells

Background

  • Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell is the promising power source for automotive applications;
  • Assembly effects on performance is not considered in existing research;
  • Therefore a comprehensive model is desired incorporating assembly pressure impacts including contact resistance, stack mechanical deformation and gas flow transfer.

Objective

  • To develop multi-physics models to predict PEM fuel cell performance comprehensively;
  • To provide guidelines for design, manufacturing and assembly for PEM fuel cells.
