  • Professor Hu receives SME Gold Medal, 2017. In recognition of intellectual leadership in inventing novel algorithms and practical methodologies for multi-station assembly systems and their implementation in industry, as well as his influential service to government and the manufacturing profession.
  • Professor Hu elected a member of the U. S. National Academy of Engineering (NAE), 2015. According to the NAE, election to NAE membership is one of the highest professional honors accorded an engineer. Members have distinguished themselves in business and academic management, in technical positions, as university faculty, and as leaders in government and private engineering organizations.
  • Professor Freiheit recipient of the 2015 Schulich School of Engineering Service Excellence Award for the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.

  • Professor Hu appointed as founding editor of Procedia Manufacturing
    Since 2008, Prof. Hu has been serving as editor in chief of Journal of Manufacturing Systems. During this time, he worked with SME and Elsevier in moving from paper based review and publication into on-line review and publication. JMS has an impact factor of 1.847. After completing a six year term as editor in chief of JMS, Prof. Hu is appointed editor in chief for Procedia Manufacturing, which is an open access journal focusing entirely on publishing high quality conference proceedings. Procedia Manufacturing enables fast dissemination of its content so that conference delegates can publish their papers in a dedicated online issue on Sciverse ScienceDirect
  • Grace Guo receives best paper award at ICFDM, 2014. Grace Guo presented a paper on “Within-Cycle Profile Monitoring for Real Time Defect Prevention” at the International Conference on the Frontiers of Design and Manufacturing (ICFDM 2014) in Nanjing, China and received the best paper award. The paper was co-authored with Prof. Judy Jin and Prof. S. Jack Hu. Congratulations, Grace.
  • Professor Hu receives the 2014 SME/NAMRI S. M. Wu Research Implementation Award. This award recognizes outstanding original research presented as a paper at the annual North American Manufacturing Research Conference (NAMRC) and subsequently, upon implementation, had a significant commercial and/or societal impact. Prof. Hu was recognized for his Principal Component Analysis based method for systematically identifying sources of quality variation in assembly systems.
  • ASME William T. Ennor Manufacturing Technology Award, 2012. The award recognizes an individual or a team of individuals for developing or contributing significantly to an innovative manufacturing technology, the implementation of which has resulted in substantial economic and/or societal benefits. Prof. Hu was recognized for “developing innovative methods for predicting and diagnosing quality variation in multi-stage assembly systems and methods for designing manufacturing system configurations, and their implementation in automotive assembly and battery manufacturing.”
